“My photos have always bored me. I was never satisfied with pretty colors, or pretty faces. My life is messy. The way I view it is messy, and I think my photos portray that. They’re not always exposed properly, in focus, or they’re cropped weird and the faces are not always beautiful and I love that. I love that more than anything.” When I stumbled upon the tumblr page of New York based Jenny Woods I could not leave it for a long time. I immersed in all those wonderful and somehow mysterious images. Images that are about more than just a pretty face. I am engaged by all the many stories that are packed into it and there is an incredible amount of feelings going on as well. I am so in love. And I wanted to understand more about Jenny, whose images I adore. And have read along her followers questions about her work and life…
Anonymous asked: what is your plan for the future? do you want to do photography 100% or something else?
I don’t plan that far ahead :)
loosebeau asked: Hey. I love your photos. Wanting to do some nude images but my significant other would not allow that. How did your bf feel so comfortable with the world seeing all of you?
first, because he doesn’t own my body. second, no one is touching it. no one is kissing it. so, why would he care?
Anonymous asked: I wasn’t trying to be rude. I just can’t imagine a more perfect photographer. Your pictures are beyond beautiful. I can’t imagine you not creating more and making a living out of it.
I’ll always take pictures. I can’t imagine my life without it. I have withdrawals when I don’t shoot. but I’ve never wanted to make money off of it. those have never been my intentions. I shoot because I love it, not because I want to make money. also, thank you very much :)
Anonymous asked: Do you ever shoot with film?
yep! I usually share a roll with drew’s film camera but I haven’t actually went out and shot with my film camera in years
titf2013 asked: If you could recommend one thing good or bad about NYC before anyone moves there or for you here .. What would it be? Thinking about getting out of here.. Thinking about NYC .. Btw awesome fucking blog
New York is an amazing city. I think everyone should experience living here at least once before they die. It forces you to grow up. It forces you out of your comfort zone. There’s so much more to it than all the bright lights and tall buildings. I think the most important thing to realize when moving here is that it won’t make you happy. It’s going to tear you down. It’s going to rip your heart out and it won’t apologize. But it shows you everything you’ve ever wanted and more. It gives you a different appreciation for life. If you want to move here, just do it. Don’t think about it, just do it. But make sure you can handle it.
Anonymous asked: from your last post about a photographer learning to replicate someones work.. is it someone you know? or just a random person you follow and have seen change styles? because i feel like everything has already “been there done that” these days. Nothing is ever truly your own anymore.
this is a battle that cannot be won. everyone has a different view or opinion on it.
when i hear someone say “nothing is ever truly your own anymore” or something along the lines of that, it angers me. the best way for me to explain it: you are your own person. no one can be like you. you have a different mind and heart and experiences from the person sitting next to you. from the person sitting across the country. no two people are alike. sure, you can try to be like someone else. but you never will be. you are who are. everyone is capable of creating something that is their own.
sebastianandthesea asked: what camera(s) do you use? do you use photoshop or any other photo editing apps of that sort? I’ve been truly inspired by youк work, btw.
for the past few months, I’ve been using a Nikon D50. I also use my iphone a lot for my new york photos and self portraits. I edit with photoshop but not as much as i used to because i get such good colors with the film lens I use. Thank you :) I also use VSCO to edit my iphone shots.
gregorypaulphotography asked: How do u find girls to shoot with?
I don’t, haha. every now and then someone will come along, but I’m not shooting right now. back in Florida, I had a few girls (who are good friends) that I would shoot consistently. I don’t have that up here.
