Do you know what a pop-up restaurant is ? It is a new way of tasting and enjoying food and company, in rearranged places, like ex-factories, private houses, and similar…
And there is a special one in Berlin, created by two talented girls, Tina and Nele (they also collaborated with the Crystalmafia team, have I to say something more?). Here all the set design, food and entertainment is based on a siberian forest theme.
I spoke with Tina, and this is what she said about it:
“Nele and I started I EAT YOU in May 2012. We both had this mutual desire to create something that is like bringing going to a restaurant and going out to party together.
Both in our 30s now, we thought it is to early to go to boring restaurants, eat – if you are lucky – good food and than go home again with nothing left to talk about.
That´s how we came up with the idea of I EAT YOU and from that moment on it was our mission to create settings that bring people together. We started hosting dinner for a group of about fifty people a night, which is quite a lot compared to a normal pop-up restaurant. Friends or stranges were guided trough the night with DIY food stations, installations made out of cuttlery or bread that was presented in a huge bird nest.
I mean what is better than eating good food, but also get to have great conversations with the people on the table?! That´s why we love to seat everyone on one long table if we can.
At the moment we are colaborating with Club der Visionäre, who let us do our nights at the oldest petrol station in Berlin, where they are renting this wonderful listet building from the 1920s, called Anhalt.
We had this idea of the siberian forest in our head and how it would be travelling back to the past to meet your ancestors and live there like they used to do.
Our Dinner Parties always got something surreal to them and usually we dress up in postumes that matches the sceme.
This time our guest receive riddles, baked into our delicious self made bread and we send them on a long journey, where they can find answers or make new friends on their way.
We planned this series of Dinner for 6 nights only, but – according to the many request we are getting – it might go on a little longer.”
If you are in Berlin I deeply recommend you to visit I EAT YOU, and to enjoy a drink or a meal here!
