We sat down with French photographer Tom Liot for a chat. Immerse into a world of enchanting portraits and moody moments.

What brought you to photography?

Since I’m a teenager, I’m really into cinema and photography. At this period, I started taking my first pictures and making my first short film with friends. I have always been passionate about the culture of the image. It was obvious for me to get into photography. Now, for a little more than a year, I do it more regularly, and I like it a lot.

Your photos have very soft and sensual vibe – how do you achieve that?

I work a lot on the soft vibe of my photos. I play a lot with the sunlight and most importantly, I work a lot with the models. We talk together to try to create a trusting relationship, which is very important to have a more intimate and more sensitive rendering. Some of my photos can be sensual, but it’s not the goal. I am fighting against women’s bodies sexualization.

What’s important to you when you take a photo?

I pay close attention to my framing and my way of playing with the light. Apart from working with the model, that’s what I pay the most attention to.

City-life or Nature?

I am mostly attracted by the architecture and light of the city, even if I could not do without nature.

3 beautiful French words we should know?

It is very difficult to choose three words on an entire language, but I would say:

La Lune, Choucroute, and Hérisson. Without explanations, haha.
