every day is a special occasion.

We have a new favorite! Emily Siegel is the founder of the minimalistic Los Angeles style brand fete champetre which has a special concept on board. Each collection is composed of only the 5 essentials a woman needs to create a complete wardrobe: a top, a bottom, a dress, an intimates set, a piece of outerwear. Each piece is designed to be convertible – dressed up or down. Also each piece is handmade of course and hand-numbered of an limited edition of only 55. The material are mostly organic, ethically sourced and positively. Hell yes, what can you do better? Oh yes the new lookbook! It´s just gorgeous! We love everything about the wild and natural look of model  Jennifer Pugh who got photographed by owner and creative director at Wildfox Kimberley Gordon. With makeup done by Carlene K and hair by Olivia Virden. Let´s celebrate!

the wild with a fairy

Wild hearted myth. Berlin based photographer Franz Grünewald teamed up with stylist Michael Hastreiter, makeup artist Anna Bartoschek and hair stylist Tobey Sties to make a wonderful fairy tale happen. Shot on a cloudy day somewhere in the woods around Berlin for us beauty Caroline Bruchmann at Most Wanted Models looks like an angel in a piece of heaven. There is something about flowing robes and soft winter whites.

Freedom expresses the ability of the human, to act deliberately

Patrick Mohr´s show at the Berlin Fashion Week took place at a former hardware shop in Mitte. A dark and gloomy place, somehow transmitting a sort of coldness. Interrupted only by the constructed blue cages with the following quote. „Freiheit beschreibt die Fähigkeit des Menschen, willentlich zu handeln“. ( Freedom expresses the ability of the human, to act deliberately). The cages serve as the platform where he places all the models later on. In this heavy seeming atmosphere the strong blue shades of his collection transmit a sort of hope. A cool realisation of presenting his work. And a great statement that we take home with us. Enjoy the wonderful impressions by photographer and video maker Nico Stinghe at anothersidewalk.

We love how with the Berlin Fashion Week we also got to see so many different locations in Berlin. The Berlin based label Julia and Ben with designer Julia Heuse behind it, chose the beautiful former Karl-Marx bookshop to show her AW14/15 collection “Derived”, that was focused on simple, clean cuts and dark colours. As an eyecatcher leather accessories by the label T.H.O.SH. were added.

Enjoy the wonderful lively footage by photographer and video maker Nico Stinghe at anothersidewalk.

James Holden

The 21st edition of Sónar Barcelona, to be held on 12, 13 & 14 June 2014, just unveils more names on its line-up. Between the festival highlights there will be the debut of Massive Attack’s new show, the long awaited come back of Plastikman and spectacular shows of Rudimental or Pretty Lights.

Massive Attack have chosen Sónar Barcelona 2014 to present a brand new show which will move their ongoing audio visual exploration of agitation propaganda and technology a step further . The legendary project will return to Sónar after 10 years and the performance will follow the acclaimed series of groundbreaking and extraordinary shows designed and staged by Robert Del Naja and film maker Adam Curtis. For this new Massive Attack show Robert will again co-design, creating a compelling collision of music, art and political discourse.

As always, the festival program will be divided to Sónar by Day and Sónar by Night. Some artists will show their two faces — like Richie Hawtin with his brand new concept of Plastikman for day program and as a DJ for night program. However, the list of confirmed artists (for now) includes many great ones, from legends to young & promising talents.

Full list of artists: Massive Attack: Richie Hawtin / Plastikman; Caribou; Woodkid; Bonobo; Four Tet;; Moderat; Rudimental; Tiga; Jon Hopkins; I Am Legion; Gesaffelstein; James Holden; Oneohtrix Point Never Matmos; Evian Christ; Happa; Jessy Lanza; Nisennenmondai; clipping.; Downliners Sekt; Copeland; Majical Cloudz;; Balago, Desert; Pau Roca; Pretty Lights; Flux Pavillion; DJ Harvey; Martinez Brothers; Machinedrum; Laurel Halo; Ben Frost; Yelle; Recondite; UZ; Visionist; Aliazzz; DJ Nigga Foxx; Ron Morelli; Svengalisghost; more to be revealed!

Capturing the perfect moment: A talk with Brooke Frederick (nsfw)

“I am sad when people forget what fun and good times of life are. Too focused on material things, status quo and the “rules” of society. Put your phone down and go outside already!”

We absolutely can feel the work and thoughts by the Southern California based photographer Brooke Frederick. Watching her images is like taking part of a massive party, a rough voyage or like sunbathing all day long. Squirted with the bloom of the youth and with eyes to go over somebodys head.

When did you start photography?
I started in High School, I was probably 15-16 years old.

Describe your work in 5 words
Intense, Shitty, Funny, Adventurous, Curious

A beautiful image is?
Capturing the perfect moment.

You released a book called „My Life Is Profane“. We are curious – what is the inspiration behind the title?
That  book is a collection of my photos from Russia…after I put the whole book together I was having a hard time finding a title that fit, so I studied every picture to see if I could find any good ideas. In the photo on the cover the man has a tattoo on belly that says “My Life is Profane”…and I was sold. Little details and happy accidents like that show up in my work a lot.

You lived in Berlin for a while. What have you taken with you from that time?
Berlin, was a big life-changer for me. I found a muse there, Gretchen Ross, and we had a lot of fun working together. The terrain of the city was so much different then what I was used to (Southern California), so I was very curious and adventurous about exploring as much as possible. There are so many young designers and artists there, and they were all very welcoming and helpful to me. There is a great movement happening with the
younger generation that isn’t happening anywhere else.

All your images show fun and the good times of life. Is there something that makes you sad sometimes?
Ha I like this question. YES, I am sad when people forget what fun and good times of life are. Too focused on material things, status quo, the “rules” of society, etc.. Put your phone down and go outside already!

Lots of your work is also very sexy – what fascinates you about the naked female body?
I really like the element of surprise and controversy a naked woman can bring into almost any photo. I think the women’s body is beautiful and timeless, I don’t want a lot of my photos to have a time period attached to them.

Do you think there is a difference between your work as a female artist compared to the male photographers?
Ummm I think so (not comparing myself to ALL male artists, but definitely some). A lot of my subjects are my friends, and that helps a lot because we can really trust each other. Besides shooting women and nudes, being a women does help me get into (or get out of) weird situations sometimes haha.

There is also a series that you call “Everything’s Fine” which contains some images that gives the viewer food for thought. Is there anything where you would draw the line and you would not photograph it at all?
I’m still figuring that out as I go… I’ve seen a lot of weird/fucked-up shit, some of which I haven’t even shown anyone. Time and Wisdom helps me decide as I go.

The most important thing in life?
Doing what you love.

Where do you see yourself in the future?
Traveling the world, falling in love, making enough money to get by, riding a horse and/or motorcycle.

Esther Perbandt backstage at Berlin Fashion Week

I have been living in Berlin for many years. And this was the very first time that I entered the Volksbühne at the Rosa-Luxemburg Platz. What a stunnning place and I am thinking to myself I should maybe go to the theater more often. Anyhow that day I was there for the Esther Perbandt show, who is the first fashion designer to ever show a fashion collection in that place. Seems the theater director likes her stuff too. Can´t blame him for that. Esther Perbandt to me is somehow this quintessence of Berlin culture. Her fashion is raw, mirky and untamed.

The show starts appropriate to its name. Grotesque. A choir making weird noises – strange but fascinating at the same time, as it somehow doesn´t sound human at all. A dancer appears on stage and moves as if he or she was fighting a sort of inner fight. And then shortly after I start fearing that they might show the whole collection in that way, suddenly- bang- the DJ starts and the first absolutely stunning model appears. All the models are gorgeous, maybe it is because they feel so good in Esther´s clothes – there is this amazing confidence in them, that I haven´t seen that much in other shows. The audience is in love. They clap on almost every new outfit that is being shown. And it is well deserved. Black and white are the colours of the night. And Esther Perbrandt the fashion queen of that night.

Photographer and video maker Nico Stinghe at anothersidewalk takes us one more time on a backstage journey of the Berlin Fashion Week.

There are tons of beautiful girls. Really beautiful girls. But only a few have that little something extra – that special shimmering. Teresa Oman is one of those girls. She looks so much like a fairy-like model. We are not sure if it´s the full lips, her natural look or her blue eyes and the kind of thoughtful look that fascinates the viewer. So it is hardly surprising that she is now in the Top 10 of the most reblogged models ever in the 2013 official Tumblr list. That means next to beauties such as Miranda Kerr, Kate Moss and the number one of the list Cara Delevingne. Many congratulations from our site and we think it´s about time to have a nostalgic look back on the story we had with here in our #myheartsingswild Issue “Into the Wild” photographed by the terrific Natalie Cotte. Feminine power and fragility.

“Feminine power and fragility” – Berlin label GLAW unifies those two terms. The designer duo worked again with the materials silk and leather on their AW14/15 collection, and were inspired by the 40´s and 50´s.  And they were celebrated by the audience for their wonderful show. Photographer and video maker Nico Stinghe at anothersidewalk has sneaked backstage to capture the hidden moments and excitment that are concealed to the viewers outside. And are therefore all the more exciting.

choose your battles

“Fight the fight” is the catchphrase and collection name of Mads Dinesen´s show at this year´s Berlin Fashion Week. Inspired by the Arab spring, it is essential to Mads to put oneself out for something. “No matter if it is through writing, demonstrating, or whatever, I just think it is important to take up a position.” “Choose your battles” is written on some of the clothes, as another invitation to question things and stand up for what you believe in. Not only the message is very strong, also the clothes reach that vigorous level.

Nico Stinghe at anothersidewalk went along backstage and at the show through the eyes of this camera and like none other he manages to catch the mood of his surrounding.

You might as well throw yourself out the fucking window
These hollywood babylonian whores always looking for more
and there is no more. There’s no more oceans, there’s no more
regrets, there’s no more than the last fight and last breath. That
can seclude the satisfaction of living life as art and art has to be
dealt with in the most precise way. By ones own intuition, not by
the whores and the screaming dogs that you pick up treats from
like you’re fucking pet, being petted by a consumed cunt

Women power.

Women power is the inspiration of Marcel Ostertag´s AW14/15 collection – and he opens up the show presenting the first outfit himself. Clear strong lines, leather, silk, cashmere wool and fake fur, subtle cream colours interrupted by deep blue pieces makes this a very wearable, sophisticated collection. Enjoy some impressions by JUAN Felipe.

ALOHA TATÁ is a wonderful fresh Spain based label born in 2013 focused on womenswear. Creative director, Aida Menéndez, takes inspiration from nature, interiors, love and art. They also believe in a responsible way of production and so all garments are made with care and love in Spain. Oh we can feel this so much and fall in love with their latest campaign which has been shot by Igor Termenón featuring beauty Sol Abaurrea in December in Asturias, northern Spain in a beautiful wooden cabin next to the beach. With make-up and hair done by Maria Cuesta Lopez.
