We had a talk with Paris photographer Lobbiaz a while ago and we are happy to now share a C-Heads Exclusive story with you. UKJ stands for Ukraine June and it´s almost like code, because the series seems as if it was shot nowhere and just these letters stay in his mind. Shot while he was travelling in Ukraine with a very old analog camera, that only has a little cell to know if the light is correct, beauty June Andrée is the lovely motive in this raw and intense story. If you enjoy his work go and have a look on his app which he launched last September and will take you into his world of photography.

Lauren Engel is back from another trip – this time she has been to Quebec City in Canada. Despite the frosty outlook on some of the shots, it looks like she had a rad time strolling down the snow-covered roads, checking out the ice-bar, and warming up with a pint of beer once in a while.
This is the cover story of the c-heads Reckless issue shot by the epic photographer Scott Laytart; and last story out of it as well, before we head over onto planning the new one. Model Hanna Bogdan @ Photogenics is cute, pretty and playful and we simply loved having her as our cover girl. Fab Styling was done by Zoe Flood and Makeup/Hair by Julie Figueroa. Clothing is by American Apparel, Deandri, and the super cute Floral Cat Ears are by Creature of Habit.

DENA by Zelinda Zanichelli
We can always only repeat how much we are in love with DENA. The young Berlin-via-Bulgaria artist fascinates us with her refreshing naturalness, talent and high recognition value. Dropping out a new visual for “Bad Timing” we are more then happy to talk to her again about her new full-length album which will be released on 10. March and presenting a playlist curated by her exclusive for C-Heads. Enjoy!
“Bad Timing” is your new song. When was the last time where you really thought that this situation is a bad timing in your life?
When my family visited in Berlin and I didn’t have time at all to hang out.
It´s fascinating that you write your songs alone, doing your own beats and everything. How did you learn this?
I guess it’s the process itself, I had to learn it. Writing is always the initial step in the process for me, so I basically create music demos around the lyrics I write. They are the songs, based on my piano chords and beats compositions, and after this I go to the actual studio. On “Flash” I worked 95% together with Jonas Verwijnen, who is friend and a great producer from Kaiku Studios Berlin. The only song I did on an already composed production was a song with Robot Koch, where he had the instrumental and I wrote the lyrics and the melody.
Your full length “Flash” will be out very soon – in March. How excited are you yourself already? And will you have a party on the release then too?:)
I am starting to get super excited! I will have 3 record release shows – 26.2 in Berlin at Berghain Kantine / 28.2 in Hamburg at Indra and March 1st in Cologne at King Georg. I am incredibly stoked for the Berlin show, I hope to see a lot of friends there.
You are an artist with that special little extra. Can you somehow explain yourself what that certain little extra is?
I don’t know to be honest, but thank you for the compliment! I guess I really love everything about the process.
Also your style is very sweet and people love it. How important is fashion in your daily life and to you as a musician?
Fashion is like a great side-aspect in life and art, but not my main focus. I think I have a bit of a spontaneous, unreflected connection to it and that’s what makes it so exciting for me. I think style is something different, something personal that everyone theoretically can transform to an own thing and work with, and not necessarily in a materialistic way.
In our first interview in October 2012 you told us on “What are you listening to at the moment?” that you are listening to a lot of SBTRK. What is your answer on this today?
Drake.
I noticed that in nearly every interview you got asked about Berlin. So a kind of Berlin Hype we´d say. What other city would you love to live? And why?
Los Angeles. Because of the constant sun-blast and the smell of flowers. And because of the arts.
Where can I usually meet you on a Saturday night?
It depends, If I am in town and don’t playing a gig, I sometimes love to just stay at home on a Saturday and escape the whole weekend-crazyness.
How would a good friend describe you?
I really can’t tell!
Where do you see yourself in a few years?
In a studio with more sun.
My last question: Have you got any plans for another visit to Vienna?
Yay! I think I am playing there in the beginning of April!

I am pretty sure you all have already seen all the images from Kate Upton´s Zero Gravity Bikini shooting she did for Sports Illustrated’s 2014 Swimsuit Issue. The 21 year old blonde bombshell has been already featured in their calendar next to hotties like Brooklyn Decker, Hilary Rhoda, Jessica White and Cintia Dicker. To be honest, the idea of a shooting in a weightless Zero G airplane I’ve never thought of before. Kate said that this was one of the most special and greatest shootings at all what she has ever done. Oh yes – is surely one a very unique experience. The great song in the background is by the way by Yes Cadets. Feels like freedom…

same destination?
same thoughts?
same dreams?
same life?
or do you live
in an entire different world
than me?
du gingst an mir vorbei.
ein andres ich.
entlang derselben strasse.
dasselbe ziel?
gleiche gedanken?
dieselben träume?
oder lebst du
in einer ganz andren welt
als ich?

Well, we have a new favorite. MÖWE has taken over our music hearts and we couldn´t be more happy once we figured out that the electronic duo is straight out of Vienna. Mel and Clemens are the two creative talents behind it, who formerly played in an indie-band until they came together as MÖWE last year in January and since then they are making rightly a splash on the scene by dropping out beautiful, mellow releases and remixes. Harmonious melodies, swinging rhythms and lots of soul are the finest elements of all their tracks that bring out a summery feeling with plenty of good mood. Music not only for the clubs aswell as for a lazy Sunday afternoon and to let your mind wander.
Let´s start with what music means to you both?
Music means a lot of things to us but for the main part freedom of expression and the possbility of sharing emotions with all kind of people in all kind of places. I mean we produce a song here in Vienna and some guy in Mexico listens to it and writes us that our song touched him on an entire new level. This is crazy but music does connect people.
And what was the “trigger” for your wish to become a producer?
To be honest there was no trigger. We just wanted to do something new and fresh and also we were a bit bored at this time because the band wasn´t doing that fine. So we did something to make these endless nights, where we were lying on a couch and do absolutley nothing, count.
You started together as MÖWE about one year ago. How did you two come together?
We met at a concert. I saw Clemens playing the bass and I knew he has to be our new bass player. Because at that time our former Bass player left the band. Clemens is such a gifted bass player (laughs), so we talked, killed 2 bottles of wine, he started in our band „Mary lost her pathos“ and after a while we became friends.
And what´s the inspiration behind your name? What are your personal associations with it?
We came up with the name möwe because our first song got us thinking of the blue sea and möwe sounded more than good – so we took it.
So before MÖWE you were in the Indie-Band “Mary Lost Her Pathos”. What did you take with you from this time? And does this reflect also in your current music a bit?
I took a lot of experiences with me; like how to perform properly when you lifted a few glasses to much haha or how to act if something goes wrong; like your guitarist is playing a complete different song than the rest of the band. But most important of all I got the chance to make music with some really, really good guys. Yes, it does reflect a lot in our current music. I mean our songs are not the typical clubsounds which you are only listening to when you are in a club. We want people to listen to our music outside the clubs too. Therefore most of the time we focus on the arrangements of our songs. We think there´s nothing more boring than listening for 6 minutes to 6 instruments playing the same again and again. But that´s just our opinion.
Can you describe each other? And what do you love most about working as a duo?
Haha Clemens looks like he couldn´t count to 10 but that boy suprises me all the time (laughs). He can also be such a lazy one but good for us as I also have my lazy days. I really love working with Clemens because it is simple, it is easy, we know each other and if there is a problem or we don´t agree on how a song should be we always find a solution which fits us both. We match perfectly.
Mel can be a bit rough sometimes, but I know exactly what to do to calm her down. She is the more impulsive type and I´m more relaxed…. most of the time (laughs) like Mel already said our working flow is easy and nice so what can be better than that.
Your sound is so fresh and honestly I was surprised that you are out of Vienna. How would you describe your music yourself?
Thank you! We take that as a compliment. Hm that´s a pretty difficult question. We think as common one thinks our music is as uncommon it is when you actually listen to it. We want to touch people – we want to make them smile, cry, laugh and everything at the same time. It is electronic music produced by a band.
And what do you think about the electronic scene in Austria in general?
Slowly Austria develops somehting like a „scene“ again
You put out also a video for your latest release “Inside”. How important is the visual for music in your eyes? And what was the concept behind it?
Very important. We also work on some visuals at the moment because music can be so much more impressive if you support it with the right image. The concept of our video was to create, for us, an appropriate image for our song „Inside“. Plus we didn´t want to come up with the classic videos where everyone is happy and everyone is running on green meadows and the sun is shining with close ups from the ocean.
Where do you see yourself in a few years?
Honestly we don´t know. I guess we will be exactly where we should be.
The most important thing in life is?
Love, Love, Love
Any last words?
Thank you C-Heads Magazine. We really enjoyed your questions ;)!!
Many thanks back :)
This is a pretty hypnotic tune and video! Mathieu Grimard in collab with John Londono created something visually special around the smooth track Lamu by Rivver, who is François Bélanger (Frank Garrett), an electronic music producer from Montreal, Canada. The video was also made in Montreal and it shows “25 portraits creating 25 different mini-stories. Every person and every eye is shown behind a surface: glass, plastic, water, etc. Its an outside-in view on all these characters.”

Natural, free-spirited and breath-taking. Paola is the beautiful girl in this C-Heads Exclusive shot by NYC based photographer Alejandro Corredor wearing an American Apparel short and a simple sweatshirt. “I saw this unique beauty and I was fascinated. She is a student girl that could be found out on the street or on facebook with a few shy traveling family pictures. I loved her, she wasn’t worried about looking good and didn’t act or pose like if she was in front of a camera.” Oh yes – we can really feel this…
